When Hanuman Remembered His Power: Jambavan's Inspiring Words

In the great epic Ramayana, there is a powerful moment that teaches us how encouragement can awaken hidden potential. This story takes place when the brave army of monkeys and bears was searching for Sita, the beloved wife of Ram.

After being abducted by the demon king Ravan, Sita was taken to the distant island of Lanka. Rama, along with his loyal brother Lakshman, formed an alliance with Sugriv, the king of the monkey kingdom. Sugriv sent his army in different directions to search for Sita.

One group of brave warriors, including Hanuman, reached the southern shore of the vast ocean. There they discovered that Sita had indeed been taken to Lanka, which lay across the sea. But a huge challenge stood before them - the ocean was incredibly wide.

The monkeys gathered together and began discussing who among them had the strength to leap across the sea. One by one, the warriors spoke about their abilities. Some said they could jump ten miles, others twenty or even fifty miles. But the distance to Lanka was far greater than any of them could manage.

As the discussion continued, Hanuman quietly sat aside. Though he possessed extraordinary strength, he remained silent and humble. As a child, Hanuman had once performed many mischievous feats with his immense power. Because of this, some sages had placed a gentle curse on him that he would forget his powers unless someone reminded him of them.

At that moment, the wise and ancient bear king Jambavan observed Hanuman carefully. Jambavan was known for his wisdom and experience. He realized that the only one capable of crossing the mighty ocean was Hanuman himself.

Jambavan slowly approached Hanuman and spoke with kindness and confidence.

"Dear Hanuman," he said, "why do you remain silent? Do you not remember your incredible strength? You are the son of the wind god, blessed with immense power, speed, and courage. As a child, you once leaped towards the sun thinking it was some fruit. Your abilities are unmatched among us."

Hanuman listened attentively as Jambavan continued to praise his courage, wisdom, and devotion to Ram. With each word, something powerful awakened within Hanuman. The forgotten memories of his strength slowly returned.

Suddenly, Hanuman felt a surge of energy and confidence. His body grew tall and powerful as he realized the true extent of his abilities. With great enthusiasm, he stood up and said, "Now I remember my strength! I will cross this ocean, find Mother Sita, and bring back news for Lord Ram."

The entire army cheered with joy.

Hanuman then climbed a great mountain near the shore. Gathering all his strength, he bowed respectfully in the direction of Ram and prayed for success. With a mighty leap, he launched himself into the sky and began his incredible journey across the ocean toward Lanka.

This moment became one of the most inspiring scenes in the Ramayana. It showed how a few encouraging words from a wise mentor can awaken greatness in someone who has forgotten their true potential.

Thanks to Jambavan's wisdom and encouragement, Hanuman went on to perform heroic deeds that helped Ram rescue Sita and defeat Ravan.

Moral

Sometimes we forget our own abilities. A wise mentor or a few encouraging words can help us rediscover our true strength.
