The King's Grand Feast and Lord Ganesha’s Endless Hunger
Long ago, in a prosperous kingdom, there ruled a wealthy and proud king. His palace was filled with gold, jewels, and the finest delicacies from all over the world. The king loved to host grand feasts and often boasted that no one in the world could match his generosity and wealth.
One day, the king decided to organize the most magnificent feast ever held in his kingdom. He invited sages, scholars, ministers, and noblemen from distant lands. However, deep in his heart, he wanted to prove something else - that his wealth and food supplies were so vast that even the gods themselves could not exhaust them.
With this thought, the king proudly announced, "I will invite Lord Ganesha, the beloved son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, to this feast. Let the world see the greatness of my hospitality!"
When the invitation reached Mount Kailash, Lord Ganesha smiled gently. Being kind and compassionate, he accepted the invitation and set out for the king's palace.
On the day of the feast, the palace kitchens were bustling with activity. Hundreds of cooks prepared mountains of delicious dishes—sweets, laddoos, kheer, fruits, rice, curries, and countless delicacies. The king looked at the enormous spread and felt extremely confident.
Soon, Lord Ganesha arrived at the palace riding his faithful mouse, Mushika. The king welcomed him with great respect and led him to the grand dining hall.
"Please begin your meal, O Lord," the king said proudly.
Lord Ganesha started eating.
He enjoyed the food immensely and kept asking for more. Plates were refilled again and again. Bowls of sweets disappeared in seconds. The cooks rushed back and forth from the kitchen bringing more dishes.
But Lord Ganesha's hunger did not seem to end.
Soon, all the food prepared for the feast was finished.
The king was surprised but ordered the cooks to bring more from the royal kitchens. Within a short time, the palace kitchens were completely empty too.
Still, Lord Ganesha continued to eat.
The king began to panic. He ordered servants to bring food from nearby houses, markets, and even neighboring villages. Everything was brought before Lord Ganesha - and everything disappeared!
At last, the royal treasury's food stores were also empty. The king fell at Lord Ganesha's feet in fear and confusion.
"O Lord Ganesha," he pleaded, "I thought my wealth and resources were limitless. But today I realize I was wrong. Please forgive my pride."
Just then, a wise sage, Narada, who had been observing the entire scene, stepped forward.
He said calmly, "O King, Lord Ganesha's hunger cannot be satisfied by food alone. His hunger represents the infinite power of the divine. Only humility and devotion can satisfy him."
The king folded his hands with sincerity and offered a single simple modak with true devotion.
Lord Ganesha smiled and accepted the modak. Instantly, his hunger was satisfied.
The palace became peaceful again.
The king realized that no amount of wealth or food could equal the power of humility and devotion. From that day forward, he ruled his kingdom with kindness and without pride.
And Lord Ganesha, pleased with the king’s transformation, blessed the kingdom with prosperity and wisdom.
